In October 1985, just 10 years after the first Smooths were imported, a letter was sent out to every Smooth Collie Fancier in Australia and New Zealand calling for ideas and to promote the breed and form an Association. The Club was given a the name - Smooth Collie Association of Australasia.
One of the roles of the Association is to promote the Smooth Collie breed in Australasia through the "Smooth News" and to distribute information about the Smooth Collie at community events e.g. Pet Expo.
The Association is also a valuable means of communication between enthusiasts / breeders to help with breeding programmes due to the limited genetic pool in Australia & New Zealand.
Today, the Newsletter "Smooth News" is published 4 times a year with a membership fee to help offset expenses. Membership has had it's ups and downs, but today the "Smooth News" is sent out to over 60 members in Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom & the United States.
